Is having my spine manipulated the answer ?
Treatment consisting of specific adjustments done by hand, often felt as stong or gentle manipulation, to free stiff joints and reduce spinal nerve irritation, is not the answer. Although some organisations support their work with reports that numerous studies throughout the world have shown that manipulative therapy and spinal adjustment, is both safe and effective,, there are many occasions when manipulative treatment can make things much worse.
Indeed some experts have argued that , "healthy young people had a sixfold extra risk of a neurological problem within 30 days of neck manipulation, possibly caused by a tearing of an artery leading to the brain".... and "There is little evidence that spinal manipulation is effective in the treatment of any medical condition". Article about Spinal Manipulation
A lecturer in physiotherapy, has performed some early studies investigating how spinal mobilisations, work. She has been using innovative technology in the form of open, or interventional, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scanners available at St Mary's Hospital, Paddington. Unlike conventional MRI scanners, these scanners have a vertical gap in the middle which allows surgeons or, in this case, therapists, to apply a procedure to a subject whilst they are having an MRI scan.
